Happening around the school:
This one was a bit easier for the camera to capture. Do you notice what’s missing on the floor around the tables?
The chairs! That’s right, Profe Lauren’s class is learning how to properly use the chairs in our school. And while in the process of learning they all have círculos mágicos (magic circles) where they are supposed to stand. They will get their chairs back soon enough. Let me just clarify that these are preschoolers and are rarely at their tables for more that 3-5 minutes. It’s not like they do desk work all day! But they are learning to stay in their spots!
Last week’s Bible curriculum was the creation story. This is Profe Kim’s time line for the story of how God created the world.
Just as Profe Ashley’s class was learning to use their hands well so is Profe Lauren’s class. We still have quite a bit of hitting, punching, scratching going on. It’s not nearly what it was during the first week but we have a long way to go.
Ahh Profe Ashley’s class! They moved on from learning how to use their hands well to also learning how to use their feet well. I would imagine that the next one will be mouths. We have biting, spitting, bad words and name calling going on. It can seem impossible when looking toward the future but then 2 things come to mind:
1) nothing is impossible with the Spirit.
2) remembering where they started and how far they have come from there
Also the bathrooms have been a little bit of a problem. I’m sure that quite a few of our kids haven’t ever used a bathroom. Some use the sugarcane fields, some use latrines, etc. Because of that we’re having problems with knowing how to properly use toilets. Miguel has had to come work on them at least 3 or 4 times. A few times there has been A LOT of toilet paper clogging it. That makes sense if you consider using a latrine; you can throw as much as you can because it doesn’t have a pipe to clog. But there was also that time that some kids (let me just say that this has all occurred in the boys bathroom) threw some apple-sized fruit down the toilet. Anyway, the rule has been made up that bathrooms will be locked during recess. Hence Profe Ashley guarding the boys bathroom. Making sure 2 students are in there at a time and then locking it. They’ll get better at respecting the school, I’m sure! Also, Wili is yawning in this picture, that’s why he kind of looks funny!
