Makarios School Mission Statement:  Makarios will increase educational opportunities based on Biblical truths in order to empower underserved children to positively affect their communities.

 

Qualifications:

2. Deep conviction, understanding and acceptance of The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

3. Ability to lead and engage a team of people to a commitment of educational excellence in the name of Jesus Christ.

4. Strong desire to provide increased educational opportunities to underserved children and commit to an extended school day, week and year.

5. Proficiency in the Spanish Language.

6. Posses an entrepreneurial spirit, be flexible, willing and able to play different roles at the school and go above and beyond to meet varied and constant needs of the students of Makarios.

7. Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, resourceful, and willing to do whatever it takes to help our students reach a level of academic success that develops mature, able, and responsible Christians and leaders in their communities to the praise and glory of God.

8. Commitment to continue professional development individually.

9.  Strong record of helping students achieve academic success, primarily with minority and low income students.

 

Reports to:
Executive Director.

Supervises:
School Faculty, students, volunteers, and when appropriate members of short-term mission trips.

Job Goal:
The school Principal serves as the educational leader, responsible for prayerfully managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Makarios School to ensure that all students are supervised in a way that encourages student development into mature, able, and responsible Christians and leaders in their communities to the praise and glory of God.

The Principal works in alignment with the Makarios School mission and core values to direct, guide, and support all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Instructional Leadership:

1. Represent the school in the light of The Gospel of Jesus Christ, recognizing the mission and vision of Makarios. 

2. Supervise all instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes (teaching, as duties allow) on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with current research on learning and child growth and development.

3.  Manage, evaluate, and supervise effective classroom and school procedures and curriculum consistent with the Makarios school mission, vision and core values to ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment.

4. Provides constructive feedback and support to teaching staff on a quarterly basis in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement.

5. Supervise in a fair and consistent manner effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards, consistent with the values and mission of the school, ensuring a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and creates a high morale among staff and students.

6.  Keep the school faculty informed and seek ideas and resources for the improvement of the school conducting meetings as necessary to the proper functioning of the school.

7. Establish and maintain schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non-classroom areas for the health, safety, and welfare of students, school faculty, and visitors.

8. Establish the annual master schedule to ensure execution of instructional programs, Parent Teacher Fellowship Meetings, holidays, school faculty meetings, and daily and annual events.

9. Communicate with the Executive Director regularly regarding the needs, successes, and general operation of the school.

10. Establish and maintain an effective inventory system for all school supplies and school faculty workspace supplies and equipment.

11.  Work with the Bible Curriculum Coordinator to guide, support, and instruct teachers to provide the spiritual atmosphere that motivates and encourages students to accept God’s gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling.

12. Oversee development of curriculum, keeping the Executive Director up to date on all additions and changes to current curriculum.

13.  Oversee school records regarding school attendance as well as decisions regarding the exclusion of students, additions of students, and waiting list for future enrollment of students.

14.  Manage and supervise school food program.

 

B. School/Community Relations:

1. Represent the school in the light of The Gospel of Jesus Christ, recognizing the mission and vision of Makarios.

2. Establish and supervise an atmosphere that aligns with the mission and core values of the school by developing and maintaining a professional rapport with students, parents, and school faculty by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and respect.

3. Make known all policies and procedures the school staff is obligated to adhere to.

4. Notify the Executive Director of staff members who fail to adhere to and support policies and procedures of the Makarios School.

5. Maintain an atmosphere dedicated to appreciate, respect, and accept the uniqueness of the school culture and the culture of the community the Makarios School serves.

6. Motivate and encourage students to accept God’s gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling.

7. Provide, plan, and/or execute scheduled devotional, in-service, retreats, committees, faculty meetings and Parent Teacher Fellowship meetings.

8. Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent, and understanding.

9. Consult with Executive Director regarding the hiring and firing of staff.

 

Compensation

Makarios will provide one round trip plane ticket per year and international health insurance.  Individual will raise $1,100/month in financial support plus start up costs.  Makarios will work with you in this process.
