We have four classes and fifty seven children in our preschool program. Right now, each of the children in our program is fully sponsored. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor in the future, please email hollyecrim {at} gmail {dot} com to request to be contacted in the event that a sponsorship becomes available. We would love to match you up with a child in the future.

Our preschoolers come to school from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Depending on which village the child comes from, they will either walk to school or be picked up by our driver. While at school, in addition to their education, they receive two warm meals, a vitamin, and clean water. We have a medical care plan for each child which consists of a 500 peso allowance for the child’s medical care, if they are to become ill (necessary medication as well as a doctor visit). Our children are also seen by a medical care team that partners with Makarios annually.

The sponsorship of our children is what allows our school to function. Any costs incurred at the school are covered by the sponsorship fund. Your sponsorship directly pays for the kid’s uniform shirts, food (two warm meals during the school day) and clean water, our Dominican staff salaries, transportation to and from school for the children who come from Chichigua, school materials and maintenance of the school. With your sponsorship of one of children, the children then have access to medical care, vitamins, donated clothing (khakis, shoes, socks underwear) as well as any other donated items. We do not use sponsorship funds to pay for our American teachers’ salaries, furniture at the school or building costs for our new building.

A full sponsorship of one of our preschoolers is $80 a month and a half-sponsorship is $40 a month. We have sponsors at both the full and half-sponsorship level. If a sponsor would like to provide a half-sponsorship for a child, Makarios will then tie that half-sponsorship to another half-sponsorship to complete that particular child’s sponsorship. Therefore, some children in our program will have two sponsors.

We encourage relationships between our sponsors and their sponsored child. The sponsor will be sent monthly email updates about Makarios, life in the Dominican Republic, their child, and/or things going on at the school. Sponsors will receive a mailed update twice a year. One will be with our Christmas mailing and the other will be at the end of the spring semester.

The quickest and best way to get a letter to your sponsored child is to email it to hollyecrim {at} gmail {dot} com. It will it then be translated and given to the child. A sponsor can also mail a personalized letter or anything that fits into a flat envelope (can be a large, flat envelope) to our Austin address.

Items mailed to our Austin address will then be brought down to the Dominican Republic with a short term mission team when they come. We host teams throughout the year.

We invite our sponsors to come visit us in the Dominican Republic and to come meet their sponsored child. Combining a mission trip with a vacation is not unheard of, in fact, we encourage it!
